In 1995, Bob Buford captured his thoughts on the transition from success to significance in a book called Halftime (Zondervan, 1995). In a sense, this book was a natural outgrowth of Bob’s personal journey. After building a cable television business, Buford had embarked on a parallel life of service—by founding Leadership Network (www.leadnet.org), a non-profit organization that enhances innovative church practices, and helping launch the Peter F. Drucker Foundation for Nonprofit Management, now known as the Leader to Leader Institute (www.leadertoleader.org).

But the publication of Halftime marked a turning point for Bob and put words to what many people were already feeling. The book was a huge success. People from all over the country contacted Bob, affirming that he had captured “exactly what I’ve been feeling.” Soon, business and professional leaders were urging Bob to create an avenue for those who wanted to answer "yes" to the call of the Halftime journey.

In 1998, with the counsel of Peter Drucker, Bob responded by forming the organization that is known today as Halftime (formerly FaithWorks). This fast-growing organization now includes dozens of staff and partners all across the country. Halftime provides a wide array of products, services and experiences to help marketplace leaders discover and live out God’s call in a sustainable way.

The 2004 publication of Lloyd Reeb’s book From Success to Significance represented another important step forward. Building on the foundation laid by Halftime, Lloyd’s book and corresponding Group Curriculum spoke to the growing number of marketplace leaders who, while not financially independent, have some options with the way they allocate a portion of their time, talent and treasure. To serve these individuals at an even deeper level, Halftime launched www.successtosignificance.com in 2006. Today, this site serves both individuals on their journey to significance, and churches and other ministries that are in a position to support and benefit from the contributions of marketplace leaders, as well as financial professionals who want to help their clients achieve kingdom goals.
